This column isn't just concerned with one-week results; the roster limitations of IDP leagues usually don't allow for too much itinerant movement, which means fewer opportunities for plug-n-plays. Still -- it's nice to see some immediate returns on sleepers, and last week's recommendations provided some early dividends.
At the linebacker spot, the stats were exceptional for guys with such low ownership percentages. Dhani Jones had nine total tackles (seven solos), Zac Diles turned in 10 total tackles (five solos), and Scott Fujita (two percent ownership heading into Week 4) finished with five solos, a sack, and a forced fumble. Only Eric Barton (two tackles) could be considered a bust.
Two of the three DBs I selected had big games, and the third...meh. Charles Godfrey posted eight total tackles (six solos), while Nate Clements was among the top ten DBs last week (7 solos, PD, INT). In most formats, the fumble in the waning may or may not have counted against you, but you have the like the fact that he guy was trying to take the INT to the house. Kelvin Hayden wasn't a complete loss, as he had two pass defenses and an assist.
Linemen Calais Campbell (four tackles),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Red Bryant (five tackles) and Kyle Williams (five solos) all had serviceable days for the weak-scoring DL slot, but nobody got to the QB. Look for that to change with this week's picks.
Linebackers
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Packers (18 percent owned) -- Nick Barnett's wrist injury could end his season, and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] (once a stalwart IDP performer) likely assumes many of his duties on passing downs. Because of injuries to Barnett and Brandon Chillar, as well as the inexperience of fill-in Frank Zombo, the Packers no longer have the luxury of constantly rotating their 3-4 LBs. I'm expecting more snaps for [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] and thusly, better numbers.
Sean Weatherspoon, Falcons (16 percent owned) -- The rookie appears to be ready to play on Sunday, despite an ankle injury that kept him out last week against San Fran. He posted 24 tackles and a sack in his first three games, and has value in deeper IDP leagues.
Keith Brooking, Cowboys (11 percent owned) -- Relatively quiet thus far, Booking will be focused on Chris Johnson this week and post good, if not great, tackle totals against the titans, who run the ball as much as anybody in the league.
Keith Rivers, Bengals (8 percent owned) -- Aside from the game he missed, Rivers has been a huge fantasy asset in deeper leagues. I expect the Bucs to run an onslaught of weakside draws and counters, and Rivers will clean up.
