We can too log our feelings immediately after the experience, so that we can afterward see behind and remember that it was not as bad as we expected, even now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], after,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we remember it being extremely hard or very painful.
This week, try these tips to experience your life extra authentically.
But we don't consider that's true, for of the tricks our minds play.
Clearly there is a disconnect among what we expect and what we actually obtain, and variant disconnect among what we actually get and what we later think we got.
Dr. Gilbert's research suggests that, while it comes to happiness, we don't know our own minds, and this is equally true of fewer jolly experiences, from a junket to the dentist to being launched.
This loosen can be used to help us handle with laborious situations, in two ways.
First, when anticipating someone obnoxious, we can remember that there is scientific proof that things are not as bad, when capable, as they are when assumed beforehand.
• Before a panicked meeting or other event, write down your expectations.
• Spend some period preoccupied almost how you can alteration those expectations to more positive ones.
• Write down your exact response after the event; liken it apt your expectations and note how things were better than anticipated.
Our minds play tricks ashore us, and an of the tricks they play is imagining that something ambition be indeed horrible. This corners out to be a serviceable trick, because in fact things are rarely, if ever, as bad as we expect, and we are forever competent to deal with them more accessible because of that.
But the cheat our memories activities of memorizing things for being exactly namely horrible is a dupe we could do without, and which we can do without by production memoranda, alternatively book in a magazine, what truly happened and what it truly felt favor.
Dr. Daniel Gilbert, a Harvard instructor of psychology,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], has done some ground-breaking and quite intriguing research into the science of pleasure. Dr. Gilbert has discovered, for instance, that we don't enjoy things as many as we expect.
This research has an interesting opposite side, which is that things are never as bad as we expect. Dr. Gilbert gives one sample of Democrats who thought they would be "destroyed" if George W. Bush won re-election. Gilbert's research showed that the Democrats contained in the study were not nearly as devastated, the daytime after the referendum, as they expected to be. Their reports of their feelings were more positive than they expected.
However, several weeks later, they remembered being as devastated as they had expected.
Humans are remarkably elastic individuals. We can cope with things we never trusted we were able of surviving, and we can come through these experiences emotion stronger than before we went through them.
We can use this knowledge to tranquilize ourselves and caution ourselves that we're no really going to experience as much grief, sadness, or additional negate feelings as we expect.
