history of dams
A dam is a kind of seal barrier that seals water and underground streams. Generally they serve the main purpose of holding water [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while others such as floodgates and dikes are utilized to manage the flow of water to specific land regions. There are various types of dams that are built in various ways which serve an array of purposes from power generation, flood water seal to water supply.
The earliest dam was located in Jawa, Jordan which is about 100 Km northeast of the Jordanian capital Amman. This gravity dam featured a 9m high and 1m wide wall of stone which was supported by a 50 m wide earth rampart. This structure is believed to have been built around 3000 BC.

Of course judging by these purposes, dams are built to the benefit of humankind however, the environmental and human social impact should also be taken in to account. According to sources, this proposed politically motivated water supply has cut numerous corners to get its construction underway.
