AB – Why no cameos?
Anne Brodie – You’ve had a long and very successful career as an actor, what’s the fascination of directing?
Damian - Ah,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the cinematography of the wilderness! It was the first place I’ve worked where you could shoot in any direction, the scale, and big, scopey, panoramic view, the feel of the wilderness. Our film was the only one ever to shoot on the ranch, 100k acres, never before. An Indian reservation controls is and gave us access, to do a movie in a place that’s never been seen before was a thrill. For the stampede we had eight cameras and a helicopter. We needed a lot of angles and cameras to capture that beauty and emotion and drama,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but in the end it was about a girl from the city who goes to live on a ranch. She bonds with a wild, spirited horse and overcomes tremendous obstacles and perseveres.
Michael Damian - I’ve worked with great people from Gary Marshall to Andrew Lloyd Weber who have incredible instincts and ideas and from the Young and Restless, I watched the writing and directing and working with great actors you just pick things up. I’ve always been fascinated by directing and the technical side of movie making so I’m just thrilled to have directed Flicka 2.
MD - What was also really nice was working with my wife, the executive producer, who is a horsewoman, a professional and could advise me and guide me through it and tell em how to shoot the horses and tell me that a horse isn’t like a car; it doesn’t have an ignition or parking brake.
AB – The Wild West scenery just stunning. You shot in and around Kamloops?
The girl is send to live with her estranged father when her grandmother becomes ill. Her new life is unfamiliar, strained and seekingly doomed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], until she finds kinship in ranch hand Jake (Reilly Dolman) and the horses she grows to love. Flicka 2 was shot in the endless landscapes of the Canadian Rockies.
AB – So I hear your wife Janeen was around the set a lot!
Reilly DolmanAB – So here you are playing a lifelong rider. Had you ever been on a horse before this?
RD - I had ridden a horse about 12 years ago on a trail ride, with someone holding the reigns for me and no,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we just got some lessons before we started shooting and had to tap into my primitive instinctual mind. Animals have emotion, horses stature in itself can be intimidating and if you’re not comfortable or accustomed to being around them, being such powerful beasts and they're very empathetic, and sense every emotional inconsistency that we don’t pick up on. It’s inspiring as a human being. But it’s true they are like big kids, they essentially want to play, to horse around.

MD - I didn’t appear because I would have to have gone to hair and makeup and never would have found the right horse suit. There just wasn’t anything where a cameo would have been organic, like Alfred Hitchcock’s. It was a tall order directing this film with 110 horses in the stampede, wild mustangs not trained to ride. Reilley rode in that stampede, the fifty horses with wranglers. There were five Flickas because every horse has its own talents, one could do tricks, ride in the stampede, or be reined. There’s plenty of action and they are scary creatures.
