Now you want to make your music collection available via your new web
server. To do sobrowse to the folder that contains Apache’s configuration files
located at C:\ProgramFiles\ApacheSoftwareFoundation\Apache
2.x\conf\. Thenmake a copy of the main configuration file
httpd.conf
before you make any changes―just in case. Save the copy as httpd
.backup.confin that same directory.
Thenusing a plain text editor like Notepadopen the
C:\Program
Files\ApacheSoftwareFoundation\Apache2.x\conf\httpd.conf
file. The contents of this file look long and scarybut most of the defaults will
work just fine. You just have to change a few things.
Firstcomment out the line that starts with
DocumentRootand add
another with your directorylike this:
#DocumentRoot “C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/htdocs”
DocumentRoot “C:/Documents and Settings/penelope/My Documents/My Music”
where C:/DocumentsandSettings/penelope/MyDocuments/My
Musiccorresponds to the location of your music files.
NOTEWhile Windows directory structure normally uses backslashes
Apache’s default httpd.confuses forward slashesso that’s what’s used in
