Consumers have become so savvy to the green concept that they are now challenging manufacturers to go green and to give back in equal measure. Caroline Schultz, in her article “How much for that ecosystem?” [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], raises a question as to the cost involved in such a process. The implication is that feasibility and cost analysis on development needs to be weighed against the environmental cost; the cost of loss of ecosystems and life-sustaining environments.

New Consciousness Honors an Integrated Approach
The new consciousness recognizes the necessity of honoring our advancements and being kind enough to humanity to not strip bare everything that it is based upon. Just as a mother would not rip a child away from bad dreams but instead gently ease them into the realization of their safety [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], humans need to offer loving kindness as humanity is eased into a new way of integration with the natural environment.
Living consciously has become a trend with an ever-increasing consumer awareness of earth-friendly practices. Generations of local farmers and entrepreneurs have been trying to do this, but feel the strain of having to compete with larger manufacturers who have the technology to produce higher volumes at cheaper cost. Nonetheless [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the pervading wave of green thinking is challenging everyone to integrate technologies that have respect for our environment and natural resources.
With society questioning the world’s way of doing things, producers have no choice but to pay attention. A visit to any run-of-the-mill supermarket will demonstrate that the wave of green consciousness has been having an impact because on almost any shelf sits a variety of nature-based products. The endless stream of organic markets and green theme stores, such as Planet Organic and Green Earth, serve as a testament to the growing interest.
True conscious awareness of the green concept recognizes that humanity has evolved beyond being able to survive in the true roots of how we started. Technologies are so far advanced that humans have forgotten how to function without it. In keeping with the developments of society and not throw the baby out with the bathwater, so to speak, manufacturers are finding ways of integrating it into a more effective use in replenishing the natural environment.
Consumers Demand More Commitment
In line with this way of thinking, several countries, such as the UK, Australia, and Canada, have developed such award systems as Tidy Towns and Green City to honor those places that are keen to address beautifying and transforming their town into more eco-friendly practices. Cities like Kawartha Lakes, with their Community Improvement Plan, are identifying what they refer to as a “Green Hub”. This involves directly linking community improvement with green technologies.
