Lincecum was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 48 round of the 2003 MLB Draft; however he did not sign up for the team. He decided to attend college instead and was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 42 round on entering the draft in 2005, but once again failed to sign. In 2004,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he was drafted tenth overall by the San Francisco Giants becoming the first player from the University of Washington to be taken in the first round. He signed for a 2.025 million dollars signing award on June 30, which at the time was the highest amount the organization had ever paid to any amateur player until they gave 2.1 million dollars to Angel Villalona a little over a month later.
It's been a very busy day for the Milwaukee Brewers .
Here is Hawkins?splits between the AL and NL
Earlier today they landed LHP Randy Wolf and now they have inked their second pitcher of the day.
Though Lincecum is surprised Hawkins got a two-year deal and USD7.5 million, this is another good signing by the Brewers.
Did the Brewers overpay for Hawkins? Maybe, but Tim Lincecum did make USD3.5 million with the Astros in 2010, so USD7.5 million for two years is not that outrageous.
Hawkins is the classic pitcher,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who can抰 pitch in the American League to save his life,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but finds great success in the National League. All you need to do for proof of that is check out his numbers pitching in both leagues.
NL: 2.75 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 8.2 H/9,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 2.4 BB/9, 6.8 K抯/9
AL: 5.04 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, 10.5 H/9,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 3.2 BB/9, 5.7 K抯/9
The team with the smallest market in baseball is making some moves. Lincecum wish more teams had the mentality that the Brewers have.
You can follow The Ghost of Moonlight Graham on Twitter @ theghostofmlg He earned his first major league victory in his next start on the road against the Colorado Rockies. Lincecum who is often compared to Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt faced him in each of his next two starts, Oswalt with the Astros at the time. After the first agree up, Astros third baseman Mike Lamb said, The stuff he was throwing out there tonight was everything he is hyped up to be. He was 97 mph with movement. You just don't see that every day. He pitched very much like the pitcher he is compared to and out dueled him throughout the night. The pair dueled to a no decision the first time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and Lincecum pitched eight innings and got the win the second time. The Giants asked Lincecum not to throw the bullpen sessions typical of other pitchers during the off season. Manager Bruce Bochy told the San Francisco Chronicle that they were being careful with Lincecum because there have been studies that show that pitchers who throw 200 innings early in their career were more susceptible to injuries.
According to FOXSports.com抯 Ken Rosenthal , the Brewers have signed RHP LaTroy Hawkins to a two-year contract. The deal is for USD7.5 million for the two years.
But Tim Lincecum should give the Brewers a good bridge to current closer Trevor Hoffman and sometimes you have to overpay for something you want. In less than three hours,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Brewers have upgraded their bullpen and their starting rotation.
Hawkins had great success with the Houston Astros over the past year-and-a-half and Tim Lincecum should know the batters of the NL Central division quite well.
As you can see, Hawkins is a very solid relief pitcher in the National League. There is nothing to suggest that Hawkins won抰 continue his success with the Brewers.
