Thermae Bath Spa is a day Spa comprising new and historic buildings located in the heart of the World Heritage city of Bath and offers bathing in the mineral-rich natural thermal waters and a range of spa treatments designed to ease the body and soothe the mind in a relaxed, inspirational setting.
The opening of Thermae Bath Spa is the latest chapter in a story which goes back at least 2,000 years to Roman times, though according to legend it was Prince Bladud (who later proceeded to become the 9th King of the Britons and supposed father of King Lear) who founded the City of Bath around the springs in 863BC after bathing in the hot muddy waters cured his leprosy.
The historical parts of the spa – Roman, medieval [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Georgian and Victorian – have been refurbished and returned to life, but there's also an astonishing new 21st-century spa complex that offers a full range of treatments, complementary therapies and steam rooms, not to mention the opportunity to bathe in a spectacular rooftop thermal pool open to the skies.
Thermae Bath Spa is the only Spa in Great Britain to offer bathing in natural spring waters, believed to have fallen as rain around 10,000 years ago and then sank to a depth of about 2km below the earth's surface. Here they met high temperature rocks before rising back up through a break in the limestone that lies beneath the city of Bath. Over 1 million litres of mineral-rich water flow from the thermal springs each day, at an average temperature of 45°C / 113°F.
