The fashion world is still reeling from the shocking news that Luella Bartley will cease trading with her fashion label due to her financial backer, Club 21,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], pulling out and not supplying any more funding. This news,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], coupled with the fact that the Italian company that makes her products Carla Carini, went into liquidation in October 2009, means Luella is not able to meet the order requests for her critically acclaimed Spring / Summer 2010 collection.
Bartley has released a statement and been quoted as saying to BBC news (10 November 2009), “This is a very disappointing situation for everyone involved with the brand. It is upsetting not to be able to protect jobs in this difficult economic climate. We have a number of options open to us and are considering these over the coming months."
In 1999 she left and made the leap into fashion design and until recent unfortunate events,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], has not looked back, even gaining the title of British Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2008.

She is among the much-feted Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design alumni, graduating in 1994 from a course in fashion journalism. Bartley went to work for The Evening Standard newspaper, in their fashion department, before moving onto the holy grail of fashion writing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], British Vogue.
