Burnett's "Charwoman" was one of her best-known comic creations. An animated version of the character opened and closed her hit comedy series [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]The Carol Burnett Show from 1967 to 1978.
Burnett recently agreed to voice the role of Sourpuss Jane Kangaroo in the upcoming Fox/Blue Sky animated movie Horton Hears a Who.
Burnett had previously rejected a 2005 request by the show's producers to use her likeness and Carol Burnett Show theme music in a Family Guy episode.
In an April 2006 episode of Family Guy, the charwoman (British slang for cleaning lady) is shown mopping the floors in a porn shop. The lawsuit alleges that the show played an altered version of The Carol Burnett Show theme as a soundtrack, and characters from Family Guy also mocked Burnett's famous earlobe tug. Carol Burnett always tugged her left earlobe during public appearances as a subtle 'hello' to her grandmother.
The studio claimed to be surprised by Burnett's reaction to an 18-second sequence.
"Family Guy, like The Carol Burnett Show, is famous for its pop culture parodies and satirical jabs at celebrities," responded Chris Alexander, a spokesman for 20th Century Fox Television. "We are surprised that Ms. Burnett [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who has made a career of spoofing others on television, would go so far as to sue Family Guy for a simple bit of comedy."
