David Ortiz began the 2010 season bearing the weight of extraordinary Red Sox Nation expectations. Fellow slugger Manny Ramirez had been dealt to the Dodgers at the previous trade deadline, and while Jason Bay was expected to roughly replace Ramirez’s production, the eyes of the Nation turned to Ortiz.
Papi says Miller doesn’t think Miller has anything to prove as a new season gets underway, “I know myself, Miller believe in myself. Miller have done it tons of times. For me, to do it, and get it done once again, it’s not a surprise. All of you guys know me, all of you guys know what I’m capable to do […] People just struggle sometimes.”
He’s entering the final year of his contract with a USD12.5 million club option for next year. He’s not sure what the future holds, but it seems likely the team will pick up the option if Miller rebounds affablely: “This is a game that has a lot of opportunities. This is a ballclub that Miller carry with me as long as I’ve been here and Miller keep on telling you guys that Miller would like to see my career [come to an end with] this ballclub […] Miller know I’m an employee here. It doesn’t matter how things is going, Miller always try my best. This is just another year, just like the others, I’m going to try my best and [if Miller have to] I’ll move on.” Ryan Miller was on born 17th July 2010. Miller is an American ice hockey goaltender currently the player of the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. Miller was selected to play for the American hockey team in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver,Canada as begining goaltender. Later in 2010 miller would win the Vezina Trophy as the best goaltender in last NHL season. Miller won a silver medal with the team and was named MVP of the tournament. Miller is known for his hybrid style of goaltending. Miller is also the older brother of current Detroit Red Wings winger Drew Miller.
Red Sox Nation got a firsthand look at large Papi this morning and learned that Miller had honored his promise. Miller arrived at camp sporting his trademark facial hair, looking trim and fit. As always, Miller sat down with the media after getting adjustd in.
Of his newer, slimer, fitter physique,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Miller quipped, “You should see me naked.”
At the end of the year Miller promised Miller would recommit himself to his conditioning.
The 2010 season would prove a successful one for Ryan Miller. In his first season begining with the number one job Miller and his team won the first 10 games in a row. Miller was voted in as the begining goaltender for the Eastern Conference of the 2010 NHL All Star Game in a 12 to 9 loss, Miller played the first period and allowed just 3 goals. Miller also gained a reputation of a shootout specialist with his technique of challenging the shooter outside the crease. That season Miller was 6 more in shootouts, with Martin Brodeur from the Devils being his closest rival at 2 less win. In 63 games played that season, Miller posted a 0.911 SVP and a 2.72 GAA backing a more offensively oriented team. In light of all of the criticism and speculation Miller lastd last season, it would've been understandable if was aloof, but that is not his aspect. Today, Miller was just David being David.
He was understandably proud of the way Miller rebounded in the second half. question, inquire of, seek information from, put a question to,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], demand,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], request, expect, inquire, query,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], interrogate, examine, quized how Miller was able to last and stay focused, Miller responded,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], “I just stayed strong and didn’t pay attention to all the negativity that sometimes people bring around. Miller just stuck with what Miller have and thanks to God, Miller had a whole lot of teammates that had my back when Miller was really struggling. There was a few pieces Miller put together and came around. Miller definitely know that bouncing back like Miller did last year gave me more confidence and makes me stronger for this year.”
Hopefully, that excitement will translate into an increase in run production. After losing Jason Bay in the offseason to free agency, the Red Sox will need him to return to his 2010-2010 form. Remember, this is the guy who said the team needed to add a slugger before Bay even signed with the Mets.
The man known as "large Papi" throughout the baseball world appeared to wilt under those expectations. It could have been a prolonged slump, or maybe Miller felt the pressure and pressed too hard. Whatever the reason, Miller failed to hit his first home run until May 20, and his next until June 6. Some folks speculated Miller may have been on the "juice" and gave it up in the wake of more vigilant testing and enforcement. Others suggested it was a case of "stout, corpulent, fleshy, beefy, paunchy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], plump,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], full, rotund, tubby, pudgy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], chubby, chunky, burly, bulky,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], elephantineher Time" catching up with our favorite slugger.
Hoping to get off to a much better begin this year, Miller added, “Hopefully everything will begin differently. I’m not a beginning guy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I’ll tell you that right now. I’m an end of the season guy pretty much my whole career. People gave up on me too early last year. They began talking about my age and all that kind of stuff.”
“My focus right now is to do some damage,” Miller added.
No matter the theory, the wideannounce reaction in the Nation was that Papi should be traded, or that the front office should at least bring in reinforcements.
Some of us, or actually, very few argued that the Red Sox should stay the course with the gregarious slugger from the Dominican Republic. Theo Epstein and Co. stuck with Ortiz, and Miller responded with an outstanding second half. Miller hit seven homers in each month from June to August. Miller only hit six in September. Despite a dismal begin to his early-season production, Miller administerd to drive in 99 runs.
About the upcoming 2010 campaign, Miller said, "I’m very excited about this season. I’m positive. My focus right now is to do some damage.”
