Make an arch 6 inches in front of the first plant in the garden. Make sure it is taller than the tallest plant in the row. Anchor it in the ground at least 4 inches so that a strong wind won’t upend it.Use this arch as a template. Make several more arches so that they can be placed three feet apart all the way to the end of the garden row.Cover the arched tunnel with the rolled plastic. Attach it to the wire with zip ties (poke the zip tie through the plastic, the hole acts as a vent to allow hot air out). Depending on your wind situation you may need to zip tie the plastic at every wire, at least tie it at every third wire.Special Considerations for a Hoop Greenhouse
A hoop greenhouse is a temporary structure made out of inexpensive materials that acts like a large cloche for the garden. This tube-like structure will heat up quickly in the early morning sun and retain its heat long into the night while providing protection from brisk fall winds and cold rain. And it’s cheap!
For the simple hoop greenhouse tunnel three items are all that is necessary; sturdy bendable wire, a roll of plastic,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and a bag of zip ties. That’s it. All of these things are available at Lowe’s, Home Depot,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Menards or any other local home improvement store.
Remember that this is a temporary structure! If there is an unseasonable hot day it can be lifted out of place and moved so that the plants in the garden don’t die from too much heat. Also, this is not meant to hold a lot of weight so a heavy snowfall will bring it down. If there is snow in the forecast and you want to keep the hoop house up you’ll have to either brush it off with a broom or build a more sturdy roof around it. If you choose the second option you’d be better off building the more sustainable greenhouse to begin with. This simple hoop greenhouse is really only meant to be a quick fix to a late season problem.

What is a Hoop Greenhouse
To put this simple hoop greenhouse together follow these steps
When the weather is highly unpredictable from week to week and it can go from frost and freezing rain to 80 degrees in the span of a few days,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], what can a gardener do to keep this weather fluctuation from destroying tender plants and killing off late season fruit? Simple, make a small hoop greenhouse to place over the delicate plants when the weather is too cold.
Materials for a Hoop Greenhouse
A small hoop greenhouse (think a small above ground tunnel) can be put together for about $25 for ten feet. Keep in mind that this is a temporary structure and it is only meant to last two seasons at the most, but at that price what are you really losing? And if you want to, a more permanent solution can be made for just a bit more. Here is a site that details the process for a large construction.
