The Indonesian government and parliament on Tuesday approved a bill on money laundering eradication to be enacted as a law to provide legal certainty in combating the practice.,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
In a plenary session chaired by the House of Representative's Speaker Marzuki Ali, members of parliament (MP) all agreed that the bill was enacted to be a law.
Minister for Law and Human Right Patrialis Akbar said in his speech that the law would provide a legal certainty as previous laws have limitation in detecting practices,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], thus opening opportunity of the practice implementation.
"Besides, the previous laws have many interpretations that open flaw of the practice. They are also not suitable anymore with international standards," said Akbar while reading the final opinion of the government.
He said that the new law will have a stronger legal force in seizing wealth from people who are proved to steal the country's money.
He expected that the new law will have no multi-interpretations that open chance of judicial review.
"Therefore, the president has agreed that the bill on money laundering eradication to be a law," said Akbar.
