Temat postu: Danish military investigates allegations of tortur
The Danish military is currently investigating allegations of torture committed against prisoners in Danish custody by American troops in Afghanistan, Danish state television DR1 reported on Thursday.
The investigation comes after a meeting where Danish minister of defense, Gitte Lillelund Bech, informed the Danish foreign committee that there is a computer disk with pictures allegedly showing the torture scenes.
According to Danish daily Politiken, minister Bech described the scenes as "Abu Ghraib" -- like, referring to the torture scandal at the Iraqi Abu Ghraib prison back in 2004.
In an e-mail to Politiken, Bech confirmed that a new investigation is being instigated by the Danish military.
"The new information came to me and the defense ministry on August 18, and the information was passed over from the defense ministry to the military investigation corps August 20 in order to let the investigators clarify what is up and down in the case," writes Bech to the Danish daily.
According to Danish state television,NFL Jerseys, the new information is allegedly from a Danish colonel that was supervising a Danish interpreter embedded within American forces in Afghanistan in 2002.
In 2002 the Danish colonel was sent with 100 other Danish soldiers to the Kandahar province in Afghanistan to fight down potential Al-Qaida and Taliban fighters in the area. Since then there have been reports of alleged torture of prisoners in Danish custody handed over to American forces. The prisoners claimed that they had been tortured in the American prison camp, Camp Kandahar.
Last year one of the prisoners that Danish military handed over to American forces sued the Danish defense ministry. The former prisoner claims that the American troops tortured him after the Danish military had turned over to the Americans. The prisoner claims that the Danish military should have known,Tiffany, that he would be tortured if he was turned over to American troops.
