Temat postu: Flights 45 High Bram Stoker Writes About Vampires
aham Stoker (his friends usually called him Bram), was an Irish writer and novelist. He was born on November 8, 1847. He passed away on April 20
jordans 11
, 1912. Stoker came from a large Protestant family. Bram was the third of seven children.
Bram Stoker was born with health problems. Bram was confined to his bed, because of unknown causes, until he reached the age of seven. At that time he made an absolute recovery. Bram grew up without further illness and he was an athlete at Trinity College in Dublin. Bram graduated with honors in 1870 and Bram received a diploma in mathematics.
In addition to Stoker's mathematical studies, he loved fiction. His early years of sickness resulted in numerous hours of thinking and fantasizing. As a young adult Bram was attracted to the theater. After marrying Florence Balcombe, Stoker and his new wife relocated to London. Bram then became the business and acting manager of the Lyceum Theater.
Florence and Bram had only a single child, Noel Thornley Stoker. Bram worked at the Lyceum Theater for 27 years. Bram's income was not sufficient to support his family. So Bram started writing in order to supplement his wages. Bram spent several years researching vampire myths in Europe. Bram had a fascination with myths of vampires. Bram went to gothic places such as the crypts of St. Michan's Church in Dublin and Slains Castle in Aberdeenshire. These plus other travels only further incited Bram's curiosity with the morbid.
Bram went on to pen several gothic, horror, and fantasy tales including
The Jewel of Seven Stars
(1903),
The Lady of the Shroud
(1909), and
The Lair of the White Worm
(1911). However, none would obtain the popularity of Stoker's 1897 novelstory,
Dracula
. But Bram committed a very large error after releasing
Dracula
. Bram failed to follow copyright procedure and as a result,
Dracula
was in the public domain in the United States from its original publication.
Dracula
was for the most part unacknowledged in it's own time. The tale would not see success for a few decades. In 1922 F.W. Murnau filmed an adaptation (unauthorized) of
Dracula
titled
Nosferatu
. After the release of the film, the popularity of Bram's story
Dracula
increased by a large degree. Bram's widow tried to have the movie barred, but since
Dracula
was in the public domain challenges to the film failed.
Bram passed away on April 20
Flights 45 High
, 1912 at St. George's Square. Historians believe that the cause of Stoker's passing away was a result of tertiary syphilis. Bram had a number of strokes before dying. Bram was cremated and his ashes placed in an urn that is now on display at Golders Green Crematorium. Visitors who want to visit the urn are escorted to the chamber the urn is housed in, due to fears of vandalism.
Two years after Bram's death, in 1914
Jordan Flight 45
, Florence Stoker released the tale
Dracula's Guest
. Historians believe that this tale was the original first chapter of Stoker's
Dracula
.
