both wise and severely cute. She did that thenI remember
and said“BesidesI like bears.”
The canticle is gradual perhaps because the bear’s awak-
ening is gradual. The bear is powerful and sensualalthough
thin because he is out of his time. In a wayTabby said when
called upon to explicatethe bear can be seen as a symbol of
mankind’s troubling and wonderful habit of dreaming the
right dreams at the wrong time. Such dreams are dif?cult
because they’re inappropriatebut also wonderful in their
