The Smash Hit, Blockbusting Behemoth of a Musical is None Other Than Wicked
The Smash hit, blockbusting behemoth of a musical is none other than Wicked. It is globally in span, and partly funded by Universal Studios. Wicked is the well famous musical so far this century. Smash hit London musical Wicked has conjured up box office magic by grossing £100 million in the United Kingdom. The production has notched up more than 1,500 performances and been seen by approximately three million people. UK executive producer Michael McCabe said he was "pleased" at the £100 million milestone. He said "We are delighted that the extraordinary momentum we have experienced since opening in 2006 has now achieved matured sales of £100 million."We are particularly proud to have achieved this incredible success with advance sales also at their highest point in three years during a period of such global financial uncertainty." The Wicked musical, at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre, is based on the novel, Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire. Productions are also playing in North America, Germany, Japan and Australia. The exciting news n this Saturday June 26th, two previous Elphabas from the extensively popular Broadway musical Wicked will take the stage in Columbus. Julia Murney and Stephanie J. Block will sing in a special "Wicked Divas" concert with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra as part of the Nationwide Insurance Picnic with the Pops series. The orchestra is planned to perform selections from George Bizet's Carmen. Murney and Block will sing collections from Wicked and Ragtime, Chicago, Funny Girl and much more. There is no doubt that the role of Elphaba is physically and emotionally demanding and is considered one of the most vocally challenging roles in musical theatre. Being the cast of Elphaba is a massive success and a tribute to Patrice's outstanding talent. WICKED has recently celebrated its one millionth patron and this week reaches nine months at Sydney's Capitol Theatre. Wicked has been one of the major success stories in Australian musical theatre, starting its journey in Melbourne in July 2008. It instantly became a most important public success story. Broadway vet Kathy Fitzgerald will join the Broadway Company of Wicked on June 29 as Madame Morrible, replacing Tony winner Rondi Reed, who will give her final performance on June 27. The show continues its smash-hit run at the Gershwin Theatre, directed by Joe Mantello. Recently the Broadway Company of Wicked includes Mandy Gonzalez as Elphaba, Katie Rose Clarke as Glinda, P.J.
