truth is, the pocket watch hasn't gone anywhere. In fact, there are still plenty of examples in fashion, including a series of celebrities, of brand name watches being of the "pocket" variety over the "wrist" variety.
Of course, it's unarguable that the pocket watch dropped significantly in popularity following World War I nike jordan, being surpassed by Raymond Weil watches and other brand name watches that attached at the wrist. Up until that point nike jordans, the pocket watch was a masculine thing to wear, while a watch attached at the wrist was viewed as a feminine accessory. However, all of that ended during the Great War. Soldiers on both sides (totally male) quickly realized that when you're fighting for survival in a foxhole, every second matters. So in an effort to save time (and lives) they all started using wrist watches.
Following the conclusion of World War I, the wristwatch's popularity began to skyrocket. The pocket watch, meanwhile, was left behind. And for the rest of the century, that was the way the fashion trend continued. Why waste your time, pulling your timepiece out from your pocket, when the time could be just as easily displayed from brand name watches on your own wrist? This was the biggest assumed reason for the fall of the pocket watches popularity: the convenience of the wrist timepiece.
But was that really all there was to it? Recent improvements in technology would lead the more inquisitive to conclude the average individual cares not for the inconvenience of finding time in one's own pocket. We're talking about air jordans sneakers, of course, the cell-phone.
The only thing that has gone up as fast as the popularity of cellular phones the past decade is their technological improvements. Remember the days when a working cell had to be accompanied by an attached briefcase that looked like the "football" the Presidents secret-service carry around? Well those days are long gone, and now cell-phones come in comfortable, convenient, tiny packages, some as small as, well as Omega Ladies watches.
Now, it is commonplace for individuals not to wear a watch at all, and instead use their cell-phone as their means for telling time. And this means that a vast majority of citizens in modern society reach into their pockets to pull out a device in order to get the daily time. Sure, there's the occasional nerd with a cell-phone hip-attachment, but even that individual has to reach for something (rather than just glance at his or her wrist). So why are people ok with reaching into their pockets to use their phones as a timepiece, but less accepting of pocket watches?
