Celtics end slide, send Spurs to 5th straight loss
Rajon Rondo Jersey had 22 points and 14 assists, Paul Pierce scored 21, and the visiting Boston Celtics stopped slipping further from first in the Eastern Conference, beating the slumping San Antonio Spurs, 107-97, on Thursday night.
Kevin Garnett added 20 points, and the Celtics, winning for just the second time in five games, moved within two games of Chicago for the No. 1 playoff seed in the East.
The Spurs remained stuck in an untimely tailspin, losing their fifth straight. They are in danger of falling out of first place after comfortably being No. 1 in the West all season.
Tony Parker led the Spurs with 23 points, and Tim Duncan, playing for the first time in five games after spraining his ankle last week, had 20 points.
Wall suspended, Howard, Ilgauskas each fined
Wizards rookie John Wall has been suspended one game without pay, and two Miami Heat players were fined for their actions in Wednesday Rajon Rondo Jersey night's game at Washington.
NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson announced the penalties Thursday in a statement.
In addition to Wall's suspension, Heat forward Juwan Howard was handed a $35,000 fine, and teammate Zydrunas Ilgauskas was fined $25,000 following a scuffle in the second quarter of the Heat's 123-107 win over the Wizards.
Former NBA ref charged with attacking Wilkins
A former NBA referee was charged with Rajon Rondo Jersey attacking Hall of Famer and Atlanta Hawks television analyst Dominique Wilkins in a dispute over a clothing bill.
Carlos Campos, an Atlanta police spokesman, said 36-year-old Rashan S. Michel was released early Thursday on $1,000 cash bond after being charged with two counts of simple battery.
Michel confronted the former NBA star while he was wrapping up his broadcasting duties after Atlanta's 85-82 win over Orlando on Wednesday night. He claimed Wilkins owed him between $15,000 and $17,000 for suits.
Wilkins, who was not injured, told officers that he didn't believe he owed Michel for the clothing. |
