The Channel Islands were the only part of Britain to fall into German hands and over five years of occupation Hitler fortified Jersey with massive gun emplacements and a huge network of defensive beach walls and bunkers. The Occupation Tapestry Museum at New North Quay was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation. This is a fascinating exhibition. It consists of 12 panels and tells the story of the German Occupation in World War II. Each one of the panels was stitched by one of the twelve parishes on the Island and took seven years to make. The images on which the design was based were mostly black and white photographs taken during the Occupation.
