Previously known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day is a U.S. federal holiday. This special holiday is to honor all of the brave men and women who have previously served in the military. Armistice Day was created to help people remember the horrors of war, the lives lost, and give hope that there would never be another world war again. By the 1950s, the holiday changed not to only honor the men who lost their lives in World War I, but to honor all who had served their country in the military. Veterans Day is honored each year on November 11. This day commemorates the end of World War I when a truce was signed ending the war. Approximately 65 million men fought in this war worldwide. Sadly, about 10 million of those men died.
