Cartier is one of the most famous brand names in the luxury goods marketing in the world. Cartier Watches gain great popularity all over the world due to its high quality. The company has a long and distinguished history of serving royalty with specialty pieces of luxury watches-it was founded in 1847. The following is a brief timeline of this excellent company where remained a private company for more than a hundred years. 1847 The Cartier story begins in 1847. The company was founded in Paris in this year by Louis-Francois Cartier. Initially the company specialised in jewelry and became a supplier to the court of Napoleon III. 1874 Running of the now successful Cartier company was taken over by Louis-Francois's son, Alfred. This resulted in more emphasis on the watch side of the business. Louis-Francois remained involved and had responsibility for the original Paris branch whilst his son expanded the business elsewhere. 1902 Pierre Cartier, grandson of Louis-Francois,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], opened Cartier London in New Burlington Street. 1904 This is when the story of the Cartier watch really begins, with Louis Cartier taking over the business from his father Alfred. It was Louis who really emphasised the selling of watches and making of Cartier's own brand. 1907 Louis Cartier met with Alberto Santos-Dumont. Santos-Dumont was an aviator who was frustrated by the unreliability of existing pocket watches when flying. In response,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Louis Cartier invented the first true wrist watch, a special flat design which he named after the aviator-this forming the basis of the classic "Santos" design. 1909 Pierre Cartier set up the New York branch of the company. 1912 Cartier produces the first of its famous Mystery Clocks, the "Model A". The mystery clock was inspired by the work of famous French magician Robert-Houdin. 1942 Louis Cartier died in 1942 and his death resulted in a downturn of the company's fortunes. To a large extent the company had been dependant on its leader and without him lost its way. 1972 Cartier Paris was taken over by an investment group who installed new management and breathed new financial and artistic life into it. The London and New York branches-both of which had been sold off separately-were bought back and in 1979 were combined to form Cartier Monde. The Le Must product line was introduced and the brand began its revival to the status it rightfully enjoys today. The Cartier Company now belongs to the Swiss Richemont group, specialists in manufacturing different varieties of both mens and ladies' watches. Until now, Cartier is famous for several models; they are Roadster,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Tank Francaise & Americaine and the amazing Cartier d'Art collection.
