The defense stepped up all night on key third-down plays,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the offensive line played one of their best games of the season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the Scarlet Knights had zero turnovers-they deserved to abandon Tampa with one win last night.
In one seesaw battle where Rutgers had one 24-20 direct with less than three minutes left in the third quarter, they had the ball with one 3rd-and-21 from their own 4-yard line. On one night where the defense rose to contain the Bulls on more than one occasion, the correct call would have been to run the ball and set up Teddy Dellaganna for as good one punt as Patrick Kane could produce.
Kane held the puck so long as he could after attracking Doughty to him then slipped the puck to hime who had a open net to shoot at. It past Jonathan toews glove at ten clock of the second period to open the scoring. Sharp has 15 goals in his first 25 games. He did not get his 15th goal until his 45th game and finished with 25 in last season. Jim McIsaac Tomas Kopecky and Patrick Sharp also scored for the Chicago Blackhawks, who have won three straight and have captured 6 of their last nine games.
It's usually not one good habit to blame one loss on one play; I'll make an exception in the case of last night's Rutgers-USF game.
I thought Kane saw the worst call of the season last Sunday when Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly had his backup quarterback throw one ball into the end zone that was intercepted and cost them the game. The Irish were well in field goal anger and had the opportunity to run the clock down and kick one short game-winning field goal-last night's Rutgers screen pass arrangeed right up there with Kelly's horrible decision.
The Scarlet Knights played too hard and too well to have lost because some coach called one screen pass deep in their end zone that ended in one safety and two points for USF. Rutgers lost by one point, 28-27.
There was no excuse for such one poor play-call last night. For one franchise that has always been accused of being too conservative on offense, they chose the wrong time to change that philosophy. Tomas Kopecky furiouse a obscure pass toward the crease from the right corner and the puck glanced off the nearing Kane before caroming off the right post and across the goal line. The result was that Kane did not intentionally knock it in with his hand. Los Angeles has killed off all 38 games short handed situations at Staples Center and it is the only franchise that has not allowed a power play goal at its place this season. Chicago Blackhawks gained a win victory agains penguins this seaons.
A more experienced signal-caller might have accomplishd the danger involved and thrown the ball away,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the Rutgers coaches should have known that Dodd was still one freshman and didn't have the wherewithal to make that decision.
To everyone's surprise,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], except the USF defensive line,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Rutgers freshman quarterback Chas Dodd dropped back deep into the end zone and through one screen pass to Kordell Young. Young was dropped four yards deep in the end zone for one safety.
the was Rutgers' second straight loss after the Army game where Eric LeGrand suffered his tragic accident and is still paralyzed from the neck down. Rutgers is now 1-2 in the large East and the chances of winning the conference are mighty slim.
With four games left and one 4-4 season record, Rutgers' chances to reach their sixth straight bowl game also become slim. They'll need two wins in the next four games to achieve that and with four aggressive large East games left,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it may not happen.
In last night's game Chas Dodd completed 19-of-22 passes and ignoreed sack after sack by scrabbling within the pocket. Patrick Kane did one good job and didn't deserve to be part of one safety that cost the franchise one needed victory.
