d steer snow-blower sales were up in 2010 thanks to a later and longer winter, and skid steer loader attachment dealers who planned ahead. These two factors combined so the attachment dealers were able to take advantage of the growing need for snow removal attachments, like skid steer snow-blowers, snow plows, snow pushers, and other snow removal attachments.
This strategy paid off for those forward-thinking dealers. Other dealers ordered the same amount of snow removal equipment they had in years past. As a result, they sold out too quickly [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], had to back order new attachments, delay shipping, and in many cases, they lost orders because their customers could not wait the one or two weeks it took take for the equipment to arrive. On the other hand, the dealers who ordered enough equipment were able to fill skid steer snow-blower orders well into 2010, because the need continued to grow.
This may become a regular sales strategy for skid steer loader attachment dealers and manufacturers, because winter is typically a slow sales season for attachment sales. However, with the increased popularity of skid steer snow-blowers and other removal equipment, winter doesn't have to be a slow time for the skid steer industry.
Many landscapers use a skid steer snow-blower as a way to generate revenue during the winter months. And with a longer winter, the landscapers who usually rely on an early spring were left on the bench until the winter finally lifted. In some parts of the country, that wasn't until early May — four to six weeks later than they usually returned to their regular landscaping work.
But the landscapers who bought snow removal equipment found opportunities to manage snow removal for their regular corporate clients, neighborhood developments and associations, apartment complexes, colleges and universities, and public school systems. Rather than sitting around and waiting for spring to arrive, or taking other temp jobs, the skid steer snow-blower owners can keep their machines running, which means they can continue to make money on their equipment.
A skid steer snow-blower is often more useful than the regular pickup-and-plow operations, because a skid loader can go places the trucks cannot, like sidewalks and pathways, and it can maneuver more easily around obstacles.
And while a pickup may be able to handle parking lots [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the problem often remains that a plow can only push snow into a larger pile, which cuts into the number of parking spaces available in a parking lot. There have even been civil lawsuits where poorly-piled snow melted and then refroze, causing people to slip, and the organizations held liable. The benefit of a snow-blower is that some models are able to throw snow up to 45 feet away, which means piles can be created away from parking lot boundaries, avoiding these problems.
A good skid steer snow-blower will have flow rates from 14 to 21 gallons per minute, a hydraulic blower to throw the snow, and a high-volume shroud opening of 25 inches or 36 inches. The 25 inch skid steer snow-blowers are ideal for narrow sidewalks and walkways, while the 36 inch skid steer snow-blowers are ideal for parking lots, large open areas, and wider sidewalks. Most skid steer snow-blowers will fit nearly every model of skid steer loader.
For landscapers and other contractors who own a skid steer, snow-blowers can be an effective way to generate revenue in the winter. Just like the NFL, there is no off-season for these guys. The snow removal attachments make it possible for them to keep rolling when the snow falls. And if we have another winter next year like we did this year, the skid steer snow-blower will come in handy.
