Now, though,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I feel back in the saddle and ready to ride on. No,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it is not the three Red Bulls and eight cups of coffee talking. Thanks to all for the well wishes and I appreciate the words of wisdom and encouragement that have come.
It hit me last night when I watched Alberto Callaspo taking the reps at third base for the Angels. Sure, I had heard about the Dan Haren trade, but I completely missed Callaspo. Spending five days trying to simply recover and understand what you have ahead of you will force that to happen.
Joel Pineiro suffered his first loss since June 1st in his last outing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], snapping a streak of eight starts without a loss. He pitches well at home, posting a 7-2 record there this season. David Ortiz rakes against him, posting a .440 average in 25 at-bats with three home runs. Both Marco Scutaro and Bill Hall are hitting over .300 against him. Look to avoid the 3-for-19 Mike Cameron. Bobby Abreu is just a .203 hitter against Josh Beckett and has struck out 23 times in 69 at-bats. Juan Rivera is just 2-for-18 and Alberto Callaspo is 2-for-12. Look to use Howie Kendrick is 8-for-19 while Maicer Izturis is 10-for-27. Jeremy Guthrie is 1-5 on the road this season with a 5.01 ERA. He is 0-1 against Toronto in two starts this season. Both Vernon Wells and Lyle Overbay are hitting better than .310 against Guthrie and both have had at least 29 at-bats against him. Aaron Hill is 6-for-27 while Adam Lind is 6-for-25 lifetime against the Baltimore starter. Look to use Adrian Gonzalez against Hiroki Kuroda. He is 5-for-15 with two home runs against him lifetime. Kuroda has looked good of late. He has allowed just one earned run in his last 14 innings of work overall. Add to that, he is 3-1 in Petco over his last five starts. Spot Starts should go to Vargas, Duensing, Wells. Newton Heath initially played on a field on North Road, close to the railway yard. the original capacity was about 12,000, but club officials deemed the facilities inadequate for a club hoping to join The Football League. Some expansion took place in 1887, and in 1891 Newton Heath used its minimal financial reserves to purchase two grandstands, each able to hold 1,000 spectators. Although attendances were not recorded for many of the earliest matches at North Road, the highest documented attendance was approximately 15,000 for a First Division match against Sunderland on 4 March 1893. A similar attendance was also recorded for a friendly match against Gorton Villa on fifth September 1889.
Wednesday Notes
That's what happened to me last Wednesday with the birth of my daughter. Things that mattered even just earlier that day quickly and impressively just faded away.
Tuesday Notes
Adrian Beltre has struggled against Jered Weaver, going only 8-for-36 against him lifetime without a home run. Marco Scutaro would be a concern at 5-for-22 as well. David Ortiz has hit .350 in 20 at-bats with two home runs and Kevin Youkilis is at .300 as well. J.D. Drew would be a nice option here given his 6-for-17 mark. Kevin Millwood is 1-5 on the road this season and is already 0-2 against the Blue Jays. Millwood had a rough start coming off the DL in his last outing and has given up at least four earned runs in eight of his last 10 starts. In only two of 10 starts has he worked into the seventh inning. Look to avoid the 0-for-13 of Adam Lind and 4-for-25 of Vernon Wells. Adrian Gonzalez has not hit a home run in 37 at-bats against Chad Billingsley and is only hitting .243 against the righty. Chase Headley checks in at just 4-for-17. Billingsley is 4-2 on the road this season and already has recorded a win against the Padres in 2010. Jon Garland has surrendered four or more runs in five of his last nine starts, raising his ERA from 2.15 to 3.61 in the process. To be fair, he is still 5-1 at home this season, but the results have been less than spectacular. Regression to the mean can be ugly. Not much of a track record for the Reds against Yovani Gallardo. Joey Votto has a 3-for-11 mark and Brandon Phillips is 4-for-14, and that is about it. Gallardo returned from the DL after suffering an oblique injury earlier in the month. He was impressive in that outing and nothing should give fantasy owners pause to start him. Ted Lilly owns some solid numbers against Houston. Carlos Lee is just a .211 hitter in 28 at-bats while Lance Berkman is only 3-for-29. Hunter Pence checks in at only 5-for-26. Pedro Feliz is 6-for-15 with three home runs and Jeff Keppinger is a .286 hitter in 28 at-bats. Adam Dunn may just be 1-for-11 against Tommy Hanson, but Nyjer Morgan is 5-for-10 against the Atlanta starter. Hanson gave up four runs in six innings against the Nationals his lat time out and batters are hitting .291 against him on the road this season. Hanson has only been able to complete the seventh inning once in his last 10 starts. James Shields continues to struggle. Despite a 2-1 record in July, he has a 5.47 ERA for the month. This combined with a 1-5 record at home with a 5.29 ERA would lead many away from him. Shields has given up at least three earned runs in each of his last nine starts while only completing seven innings twice in that period. Miguel Cabrera is 6-for-16 with two home runs against Shields. Matt Cain is back on the right track after a rough stretch of starts. Cain has allowed just two earned runs in his last 15 innings of work and is 2-1 overall in July with a 3.77 ERA. At home,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], batters are hitting only .192 against him. Only the 6-for-15 of Hanley Ramirez is worth a start in this one. Look to avoid Dan Uggla and his 2-for-12 mark against Cain. Spot Starts: Gonzalez, De La Rosa
It is why there were no notes yesterday as well; I simply did not feel that I was prepared enough to do the full post.
Last Night Rewind
Manchester United was formed in 1878 by the Carriage and Wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot at Newton Heath as Newton Heath LYR Football Club. The team initially played games against other departments and rail companies,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but by 1888 the club had become a founding member of The Combination, a regional football league. However, following the league dissolution after just one season, Newton Heath joined the newly formed Football Alliance, which ran for three seasons before being merged with the Football League. This resulted in the club starting the 1892 to 93 season in the First Division, by which time it had become independent of the rail company and dropped the LYR from its name. After just two seasons,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the club was relegated to the Second Division. Otto Greule Jr Manchester United Football Club is an English professional football club, based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, that plays in the Premier League. Founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, the club changed its name to Manchester United in 1902 and moved to Old Trafford in 1910.
Life has a way of showing you what is important in impressive ways.
Clayton Kershaw has dropped the appeal of his five-game suspension. Kershaw was suspended for hitting Aaron Rowand with a pitch back on July 20th. His next start will now be pushed back to Sunday. Look for the Dodgers to use John Ely in his place as needed. It will require a separate roster move to pull up Ely, but it would make the most sense. How about two home runs from David Ortiz last night against the Angels? The Boston DH pounded two shots against them last night and is now 4-for-11 with three home runs against the Angels this season. A good night,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but somewhat of an anomaly for Ortiz when playing in Anaheim. He is just a .197 career hitter in 127 at-bats on the road against the Angels. Raise your hand if you know which Matt Garza is going to show up each start. Ok, that makes no one. Garza threw the fifth no-hitter of the season last night in garnering the win against the Tigers. It took him 120 pitches and he walked just one batter in the effort. This outing came after he allowed four home runs in 6.1 innings against the Orioles last time out. Riddle me that. If you started anyone on the Twins last night, you likely did pretty well. The 19-1 thrashing against the Royals has to be one of the bigger beatings of the season. Unfortunately, the bad news that came out of it is that Justin Morneau is still likely not ready to come back and will miss the entire series against Kansas City. No timetable for his return is set. Two other injuries from last night. Dan Haren left his first start with the Angels after being hit in the pitching arm by a line drive. Haren walked off under his own power and was being evaluated last night. No x-rays were taken and it is being called a bruise. In a random injury, Chris Coghlan could need surgery on a torn meniscus suffered while giving a shaving cream pie to Wes Helms celebrating a walk-off win. Please read related articles:
