Could the Penguins deal Malkin?
It has been reported for the last few seasons, often inaccurately, that the Pittsburgh Penguins would consider trading star center Evgeni Malkin.
As the Edmonton Journal reports, the Penguins are still searching for a top-line winger to play alongside Sidney Crosby, however they would probably have to swap a big contract in order to make such an acquisition
While the Journal suggests such a trade appears unlikely,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it notes the Penguins could ship Malkin to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for star left wing [link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however, is Columbus' captain, and owns a no-trade clause; he would have to approve any deal the Blue Jackest try to make.
The Journal notes Malkin hasn't exploded offensively since Dan Bylmsa took over as the Penguins' head coach in Feb. 2009.
The Blue Jackets have been looking for a top-tier athlete to play with [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], presumably a first-line center, so dealing him would still create a big hole on the team's top line.
According to sources in Columbus, It appears unlikely either team would consider a swap of superstars.
