ABSTRACT: Objective To establish a primary culture method of the rat cortical neurons. Methods Primary culture of cortical neurons was made from newborn rats. Immunocytochemical and electronic micoscopic methods were used to identify the cultured neurons. Results The primary cortical neurons cultured with neurobasal-A/B27 grew quite well and the purity was about 85%. Conclusion The primary cortical neurons cultured with neurobasal-A/B27 medium are active and rather pure and could be a good model for research of the nervous system.
