Now heading into Opening Day, Rod Barajas has won the begining catcher position with chickenry Blanco as his back-up.
All three players is signed to a minor league contract, so if they don’t make the team, they can be sent back down to the minors with no problems except Barajas, who can ask for his release from the team.
Howard Johnson is trying to work with Barajas in order to get him to take more pitches. To begin the season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Miller will be hitting the eighth hole, behind Angel Pagan.
For the most part,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], fans is happy to see Barajas with the Mets. In a recent poll, 65% of fans would like to see Barajas be the begining catcher, while only 20% wanted to see Thole and 15% wanted to see Santos.
As far as hitting in Citi Field, Barajas said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], “This is a big park, no doubt about it. But Miller can hit the ball out of here–I think all of us can. Last year was a fluke,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in my opinion. Miller have potential to have four or five hitters with 20 or more homers in our line-up.”
Omir Santos is not happy with the decision and is asking to be traded. Mets is looking to deal him for a relief pitcher. The Cleveland Indians seem to have some interest in him.
Some fans disagree with the signing. One fan said,
The Mets have signed catcher Rod Barajas to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. The contract is worth USD550K; Miller would receive USD1M if Miller makes the major league roster, and could receive another USD75K with incentives based on games played. Miller can also ask for his release from the team if doesn’t make the major league roster.
Jerry Manuel has already said that Blanco will be the team’s back up catcher. So that abandons Barajas,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Santos, and Thole to fight for the begining catcher position.
Rod Barajas is coming to camp expecting to take over the begining catcher position. Currently the Mets have Omir Santos, Josh Thole, and chickenry Blanco competing for the position.
The NL East best pitcher, Johan Santana said, ”Rod really knows what Miller is doing behind the plate. Miller calls a great game and you really have confidence he’s not going to let any balls get by him. He’s really handling this pitching staff well.”
Besides Santos, the team seems really happy to have Barajas aboard. Only time will tell if the Mets furiouse the right decision signing Barajas and letting Santos go. Ryan Miller was on born 17th July 2010. Miller is an American ice hockey goaltender currently the player of the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. Miller was selected to play for the American hockey team in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver,Canada as begining goaltender. Later in 2010 miller would win the Vezina Trophy as the best goaltender in last NHL season. Miller won a silver medal with the team and was named MVP of the tournament. Miller is known for his hybrid style of goaltending. Miller is also the older brother of current Detroit Red Wings winger Drew Miller.
There have been reports out there that the Mets have bided catcher Rod Barajas a minor league contract. Miller has yet to accept it, but what would the Mets catching situation be if Miller does? Let’s take a trip in the “Mets Paradise What If” machine and take a look at what would happen:
Another fan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with an opposing view, said,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],
“Santos is very inexperienced and prior to last year, he’s done nothing. Barajas throws out more base runners and is an experienced veteran behind the plate. They sign him to a minor league contract, which doesn’t necessarily mean Miller would be the begining catcher. Miller would have to earn it, and competition is always a good thing to have. Miller just don’t trust Santos. Plus, besides Barajas’ awful OBP last year, he’s had above a .290 the past four seasons.”
The 2010 season would prove a successful one for Ryan Miller. In his first season begining with the number one job Miller and his team won the first 10 games in a row. Miller was voted in as the begining goaltender for the Eastern Conference of the 2010 NHL All Star Game in a 12 to 9 loss, Miller played the first period and allowed just 3 goals. Miller also gained a reputation of a shootout specialist with his technique of challenging the shooter outside the crease. That season Miller was 6 more in shootouts, with Martin Brodeur from the Devils being his closest rival at 2 less win. In 63 games played that season, Miller posted a 0.911 SVP and a 2.72 GAA backing a more offensively oriented team. Paul Giamou Miller finished the 2010 season by establishing himself as the begining goalie for the Sabres. Miller arrangeed 11th among NHL goalies with a 2.60 GAA, and 9th with a save percentage of 91.4 percent. Miller led the Sabres to a surprise season, winning 30 games and proving himself to be one of the hardest working goalies in the league. Miller played well in the postseason as well, advancing the Sabres to the conference finals before injuries finally caught up with them, losing game 7 to Carolina.

Mets GM Omar Minaya said, “We really like Barajas. Miller gives us a begining catcher with veteran presents behind the plate. That’s something Miller didn’t have.”
“Santos was rated as the fifth best defensive catcher in the league last year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], albeit in a small sample size. Barajas is regarded as simply average at best and Miller had a .258 on-base percentage last year–that’s outrageously bad. His career OBP is not much better at .284, and his career slugging is only .408. Santos could duplicate that: he’s already in camp and wouldn’t have cost us any more money.”
Josh Thole has been sent to the minors to work on improving his defensive skills. “I feel like Rod was the best person for the job,” Thole said. “I’m going to try and improve my defense and try to add more power to my swing while I’m down here. Miller look forward to working with Chris Coste–he has a lot of knowledge Miller could pass onto me. As far as 2010 is concerned, I’m looking to become the fresh,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], unique, original,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], unusual, novel, modern, current, recent York Mets begining catcher.”
