Mr. Consistent: Reggie [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Keeps Edge Entering 10th NFL Season
Reggie [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] has been one of the NFL's most consistent receivers over the past half decade.
One reason is talent – he was a first-round selection by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2001 NFL Draft – but another thing the Colts discuss when discussing [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] is his professionalism and his constant drive to improve.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] may not have been thrilled with his contract entering training camp, but make no mistake:
His approach to his craft hasn't changed.
Asked about his training camp recently, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said, "my camp is going like what a 10-year vet's camp should go," adding that although he is at the stage of his career at which he knows what he must do to prepare for a season, he also said he is nowhere near the stage where complacency is an issue.
"I know what I want to get out of it, but at the same time, I want to go above that," he said. "I go into every camp telling myself in the back of my mind I'm still a rookie. I want to get better. There is no way I want to maintain and stay the same. I always want to get better. These younger guys kind of keep me on my toes. They run around like spring chickens."
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], though past the spring-chicken phase, is still a player very much at the top of his profession. He has produced six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, and he has made the Pro Bowl each of the past four seasons. Last season, the first after the Colts released eight-time Pro Bowl selection Marvin Harrison the previous February, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] continued the process he started the season before of solidifying himself as more than just a Pro Bowl receiver. Rather, he became the Colts' No. 1 receiver,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a status with which he enters his 10th NFL season.
And yes, [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said even with four Pro Bowl appearances, and even with apparently little else to prove, holding that position and being a go-to, reliable receiver is still very much his motivation.
"I just want to get better," [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] said. "I just want everybody to know that I can still do this, no matter what year it is for me, and let them know that you can lean on me and you can count on me as a team to be there and do the things I've been doing in the past."
