Although Cowell will be hosting his own show on American television, it will still be in association with Fox. Cowell and Peter Rice, chairman of entertainment for Fox, have always insisted that both shows, Idol and X Factor [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], complement each other. In a statement released by Fox, Cowell said: "I'm thrilled that we have put a date on the launch of the US version of The X Factor, and delighted to be continuing to work with Fox.”
"I adore Paula. Whatever happens, I will be working with her in some capacity, because I miss her,"
Cowell's New Challenge
In December of 2009, Simon Cowell teamed up with business multi millionaire Sir Peter Green to discuss global X Factor internet proposals. They were planning to host two ‘pay per view’ shows a week from Las Vegas, and were in negotiations with a major Las Vegas venue. It is claimed that Cowell earned an estimated $75 million in the period June 2008 to June 2009. Cowell, who owns X Factor, looks set to make even more when he takes his show to the States.

It was confirmed in the press today that Simon Cowell will leave American Idol at the end of this season when his contract expires. The show has had declining ratings since its peak in 2005, but it is still America’s top television show with a reported 30 million weekly viewers. Although Cowell claims that he was offered more money by Fox to stay with Idol [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], his decision to move on was final. “I wanted to do something different. I wanted a new challenge," he said.
Speculation on who will replace Cowell as a judge on Idol has already begun, but Rice refuses to be drawn, “We have to take our time on that,” he said. “We have to make sure the chemistry of the judges is as good as it can be.”
Speculation has already started about who will join Cowell on the judges’ panel. Could it be Paula Abdul [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who left American Idol last year? It’s too early to say, but Cowell did comment:
It looks like Cowell has made a shrewd move in this latest manoeuvre. Not only will he increase revenue from X Factor, both in the UK and US, but also globally with internet sales from the Las Vegas operation with Sir Peter Green. His position at Fox is now more of a rival than an employee. Perhaps Fox may come to understand that on Simon Cowell's X Factor there is only one
It has been reported that Cowell is likely to double last year’s income with this latest gambit. It’s interesting to speculate on how American television audiences will respond to two similar shows. Will they absorb both, or will ratings show a preference of one over the other? Either way, Cowell is on to a winner.
